Those with experience with TEETHING---help!!
Good grief...
Gage is four months old. He finally starts sleeping through the night and now he's teething. He's ALWAYS happy and smiling, never cries unless he's hungry or has gas in his belly. NOW--I have a completely different baby. Someone has swapped my sweet baby boy for this spawn of Beelzebub!!! :(
He's drooling like crazy (I can handle this). He wants something in his mouth constantly, and he can't control the stuff he holds very well yet, or he drops them. So, I have to try to hold things at his mouth all the while he's awake. Not very easy while I'm trying to work...but I'm trying.
I'm giving him baby tylenol to help with the pain. I tried the baby orajel, but he screams when I put that in his mouth! I tried it on my gums and it doesn't taste that bad, but it doesn't seem like it numbs much or for very long. ??
The most satisfying thing to him, that I can tell, is my finger to chew on. Obviously, this can't be done 24 hours a day. And he's been up, more than asleep, at nights because of this teething thing!!
OH--and the poop!! Nice runny, yellow stuff...ugh! But--I can handle that if he'd just stop moaning and crying constantly!
I'm totally open to any great teething advice or medicines/gels, devices, toys whatever may have worked good for you....
Please, bring my sweet boy back!!
Thanks
Kina

Fingers are great !!! but I do understand the need to have them back to do things with lol , have you tried frozen bananas ( very messy but work so well) , and the hard as rock baby cookies that turn to mush when numbed on. and I would try advil because of the anti-inflammatory agents that might help. I know it's hard to see them in pain and not be able to fix it, Good Luck !!!
i put vanilla extract on their gums when they were having a real hard time.. it does have some alchole in it .. but it worked the best... the hylands teething tablets worked great as well... they were recalled .. im not sure how well humpfrys work... give them a try... frozen waffles, frozen washcloths...
I used the baby orajel as well...my son would scream for the application the first few times, but the relief was very quick. I used my finger and rubbed it around on his gums while he chewed to make it better. I found the the baby orajel teething swabs work well too, but there are so few in a box...but I used those a lot...especially for the sitter so she wouldn't be sticking her fingers in his mouth.
For the slobber...I just had him wear a bib all day...he usually went through several a day!

The baby teethers, the ones that have water in them and you put them in the freezer. My kids like to chew on them. They are cold and frozen. They usually have a handle they can hang on to as well. I also agree on the frozen wash cloths. Take a corner, wet it and stick it in the freezer. It works pretty good too (but doesn't last as long as the teethers. I had about 4 different teethers so when one "melted", you had another one ready!
As far as Ibuprofen, don't!!! You can't give Ibuprofen to babies under the age of 6 months. Once they are 6 months, you are fine. It really makes it nice when you can give ibuprofen, because then at least the pain relief last 6-8 hours instead of the 4 hours of tylenol. But for now, only tylenol.
Good Luck! Usually with teeth--It will last a few weeks till they "pop" through! Then you could be starting all over again!

The only thing that truly helped Rowan was infants ibuprofen. He also loved this teether: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3393883&CAWELAID=304895589
